A great article, Tammie! Thanks for sharing this.
I have no problem getting to it when I'm in the mood to write. When I write novels, I can do 10,000 words a day with no problem - sometimes more. The biggest issue I have when doing a project like a book is that I don't want to stop. I'll push myself for 18-20 hours, be utterly exhausted but my mind is on overdrive and I want to keep going.
I can suddenly start feeling sick and then realise, oh, I haven't eaten for 7-8 hours. Oops.
I don't force myself to write if I'm just not feeling it. Sometimes, we need down time. We need "input" time, not "output." I know that if I pay attention to that desire to NOT write, there will come a point where I'm eager to get at it again.
I write in a journal every night at bedtime, sometimes only a page (A4 size) if I'm really tired, sometimes I go on for ages. I also do some Tarot journalling regularly - also in an A4-size notebook - and I think the most I've done so far is 14 pages in one sitting (cramped hand after that!).
So I still do a lot of journal/writing, which counts. It often inspires issues or thoughts I want to write about on Medium or my blog.
Thanks for sharing a bit of your journey. I'm so glad you're focusing on self-care and still doing what you can to pursue your writing goals. Yay! 💜
