As a snake lover and former snake keeper, I know that generally, most snakes are quite timid and will do everything possible to avoid humans and NOT bite. If you startle them, step on them or accidentally threaten them, then they might bite - but if possible, they will warn first. It is not a snake's first instinct to bite.
This is likely why there aren't more snake bites, even though there are so many snakes - and so many deadly ones - in Australia. I read once that you have 9 of the worlds top 10 venomous snakes but don't know if that's exactly accurate.
Also - if people are gardeners or runners etc - it could be good to keep one of the homeopathic snake remedies in a pocket every time you go outside. Something like Lachesis 1M would be a good remedy to have around for a snake bite. You just pop one under your tongue and it could save a life.
