Aw, Rebecca...thank you so much for reading this series and for your kind message. My father wasn't around a lot; once he started entertaining for a living as a solo act instead of as a broadcaster, he worked away from home 5-6 days a week, and sometimes didn't come home at all for the 1-2 days off.
When he was there, he wasn't...Just glued to the TV, not eating with us, not seeing or hearing much of what went on between my mother and me, and my brother usually saved his torment for when we were alone, although same thing there, my dad wouldn't have seen or heard much, as those events would happen somewhere else in the house. My brother and I were alone after school sometimes, that was a common time for him to be abusive toward me.
And I'm sure there was a dose of denial in there, too, for anything he might have seen or heard. Being an alcoholic, he had his own issues that weren't being addressed.
It was definitely not fun but all of it has enriched my life in so many ways, as weird as that sounds. Thank heaven for healing and a shift in perspective!
I will be adding another segment today...! Thank you so much for "continuing later." I appreciate your loving words and your interest in my story. I'm sending you a big hug! xx
