Awwww, Tze Lin - first, I have to say I can completely appreciate and respect how you felt. You tried so hard to make it be a lovely birthday with big surprises and a beautiful (and expensive!) cake! And when it didn't go as planned, I understand why you felt the way you did - and had a hard time letting it go.

It's so great that your boyfriend, your burned friend, and the other guests all just let it go and moved on!

So I would say you did NOT ruin the party - except for yourself. I'm sure your friends and BF understood why you felt bad and it sounds like they all had fun anyway, so it was not ruined, except for your own experience of it. And more good news - if anything similar happens again (I hope it doesn't), you'll be kinder to yourself because of how you felt after this little adventure!
