I've always thought the same as you - although weirdly, I think they both do recognise morality and guilt. I did see the odd guilty look - mostly from Jacob - his birth mother was incredibly gifted in terms of IQ and extremely good at being believable when lying, even to the point of crying actual tears while promising she did NOT do whatever it was.

I sure wasn't perfect, but I don't believe I ever did anything that should have led to these outcomes. There are no perfect parents, but they certainly were not raised in an environment where abuse or dishonesty or breaking that law etc. were acceptable behaviours.
