Gosh, Tamara, this is so beautiful. You've absolutely nailed explaining all of this. After finally returning to meditation after my injury and other issues arising from the past couple of years, I've found it a challenge to focus and simply observe, be present, be mindful. My thoughts keep running away and I'm constantly having to yank my attention back to my breath, my awareness, the Observer ...

I think I'm finally making progress, though, because I notice I'm bringing this into my daily life again, too.

I have a long way to go to get back to where I was and then keep growing from there, but I'm getting there. And your beautiful words in this piece will help a lot.

I especially love your 'urge' meditation at the end, as I've begun to focus on using meditation to get back to healthier eating, too (not that it's terrible, but I want it to be as good as it used to be).
