Grace, I hope you don't mind that I chuckled throughout the childhood portion of this story! Oh...the things children do - and at least, to your credit, your intentions were the best. Not like kids who just randomly do stupid stuff for the sake of it.

However ... I take your point and agree completely that guilt isn't necessarily a bad thing. It's what helps keep us from taking wrong action again.

Sometimes, it doesn't land till months or years later, depending on age and the situation. It can take a long time before awareness settles in and we realise - oops, that was really NOT a good idea.
