Great story and I love where you ended up with your questioning. I think that woman was out of line asking such a thing in that setting and not even knowing you. It felt to me more like an opportunity for her to announce that they’re swingers.

Even if it was intended to be helpful, it was like closing the barn door after the horse is out.

And if I’d been in your shoes, I’d have felt like “I didn’t do enough and it’s my fault we are getting divorced.”

I think your response was dignified and appropriate. I might not have been so gracious. What a terribly personal thing to bring up! She was poking into your sex life and thoughts about it.
