I used to really detest highlighted parts of a story and i didn't bother with it. It looked too messy and I like things to be tidy. But over time, I've seen the value in it. As far as I know, highlighting does count (but how, I don't know) toward our engagement points, so to speak. More than that, I like that it shows us which parts are speaking to our readers. Which words resonated with them, and I like to be able to let a writer know that, too.

The notification that someone else has highlighted the same section as we did - well, this never made much sense to me either. But now I see it as a way to discover like-minded authors. It often makes me to and check out their work if they're new to me, and reminds me to take a peek at the profiles of writers I've not looked at recently.

But I don't use the notifications for that - it's just annoying! I only notice while I'm reading and highlighting.

Thanks for this.
