It can be hard to find the right person, and then you’ve got the added issue of wanting payments to be covered. If you were prepared to pay full fees I’m sure it would be easier. Here in England I’ve seen people have the same issue with dentists. Necessary dental care is covered by the NHS (free medical care) but it’s impossible for people to find a dentist who will take NHS patients. They want everyone to either have dental insurance or pay privately because NHS doesn’t pay them much for they services.
I was so lucky to grow up in Canada with free health care and access to many free services. Like when I was getting I counselling for all the abuse and family stuff. There were free family therapy sessions through the hospitals for as long as they were needed. And I got personal sessions for the “John Bradshaw” kind of info on abuse and family dynamics at a clinic where they used a sliding scale for payment based on what you can afford.
I was seriously struggling as a full time student and single parent of just three kids at that time (later five) and my psychologist used to just say to pay what I could afford. He was so lovely.
I hope you find someone soon. In the meantime, that book I recommended by JB will really help and will get you started.
