It's good you've found yoga to be so helpful to you! I did it when I was younger, but over the last 15-20 years, I've tried several times to get back into it, but it just didn't feel like it's for me anymore. I've been doing Tai Chi instead, which doesn't hurt but gets energy moving to all parts of the body and feels like a better fit for me. Like a moving meditation, which I really love!

No, I don't use apps. I am a meditation facilitator/instructor, and I use lots of simple little things people can do to meditate. Like choosing a word that you want to incorporate into your life - e.g. love, kindness, acceptance, peace, calm - whatever - pick a word and as you meditate, just see the word in your mind's eye, trace over and over the word, slowing and deepening your breath as you do that, and allowing yourself to feel the energy of that word as it becomes part of you.

Or the old standard, focus only on your breath. When a thought drifts into your head about anything other than your breath, just let it go and focus on your breath again.

Another favourite is to light a candle, a tea light or whatever, and simply stare into the flame. Allow only thoughts about the flame. If thoughts drift in that are about breakfast or work or the dog or anything else, let them go and refocus on that flame. This is one of my favourites, also a favourite of my students. Especially when you do it in a darkened room. It's soooo peaceful.

To be good at meditation, one needs only to keep doing it. It doesn't have to be perfect. It's about the journey, not the destination. Hope this helps!
