Thankfully, I don't consciously remember the near-drowning. But my subconscious does.

I was just a toddler, about 1-1/2 years old, playing on a pier. My parents were on the beach, not paying attention, not watching me. Then noticed I was nowhere to be seen.

Moments later, somehow I managed to find my way out of the water.

They always laughed when they told that story. Apparently, it was hilarious to let your baby nearly drown.
