Thank you for this thought-provoking piece. I've never given much thought to the relationship between psychiatry and heredity, or psychiatry and creativity before - not in the contexts in which you've expressed here. I'm an extremely creative person and can't imagine how I'd feel if that huge part of myself were to be threatened by mental illness - or treating it.

It's fascinating that there is a high incidence of certain mental illnesses in a particular area of India. I wonder what's happening there, why that would happen?!

I love the warmth between you and your father. And the sweet way it sounds as though the parent/child relationship is quietly shifting as he ages.
