Thank you so much for this excellent article, Yana. I love your mindset and attitude toward people like that. Even as a Canadian living in England, I have experienced some of the same kinds of treatment. I am corrected, told the English words or way of saying something, and told the Canadian way is "wrong."
Almost every time I speak in public, e.g. to a cashier in a shop, I'm asked, "Where are you from?" Or they say "you're not from here." Or they call me a "foreigner."
I became a British citizen a long time ago because I love this country - more than many Brits I've met who ask why on earth I'd leave Canada to move HERE. But still, they treat me like I don't belong.
I'm so surprised that people give you grief because you are so obviously well-spoken and eloquent!
