No, as I mentioned in this piece (and I think the other one, too), I haven't talked to him since Christmas Eve 2007 when for some unknown reason, he said he no longer wanted to communicate with me. I told him I'd always be here if he changed his mind.

I have my suspicions about why that happened; the people who were potentially involved in influencing him are self-serving and always used me as their scapegoat. They would have been more concerned with their own agendas than what was good for him, and would have been quite happy to turn him against me, thinking they were hurting me, but it would have been far worse for him in terms of deliberately damaging the relationship we had and were deep into repairing at that time.

And yes - he is safest where he is - and so is the general public, at least in terms of him not being able to do anymore harm.
