Thanks so much, Janin. I appreciate you taking the time to read this and to offer your thoughts about it.

Yes, we were - we thought - just like any other family, doing our best, and in the earliest days, figured Jacob would outgrow the behaviours that were gradually of increasing concern, that he would understand he didn't want the consequences, etc. But that never happened.

Even now, he doesn't take responsibility for this incident. He calls it an accident.

Not if you're participating in a home invasion. Not if you take a loaded sawed off shotgun into that house. Not if your finger is on the trigger. Those are not accidents. If you didn't intend or mean to shoot someone, or if you weren't prepared to 'go there', you wouldn't do any of these things that made it happen. It was no accident. So he was convicted of first-degree murder.
