This has become a concern for me since my injury last year. I slipped on sneaky black ice, tore the quadriceps right off the bone, and my kneecap was in pieces. Now, 13 months later, I'm not fully recovered or able to walk properly yet. Being off my feet almost completely for several months, I now have osteopenia, and because I can barely hobble with a cane, I can't go for my beloved brisk walks. I worry about the long-term effects of this on my bones and joints, and there's no 'end date' in sight for my recovery.
But I trust that I'm healing and I take various supplements that are supposed to help, so fingers crossed, by next spring or early summer, maybe I'll be able to get out for good walks!! In the meantime, on my good days where I don't hurt too much, I put on as many steps in "home laps" as I can manage indoors! Not quite ready for the Olympics, but workin' on it! Haha!
