Wow!! Ahilya, I LOVE your insights and comments! Yes, perhaps we needed rigid order amidst the chaos a long time ago - or perhaps that was just "the way people were" (kind of what I was just saying as I read your piece about learning to express your emotions a few minutes ago!).

I mean, think of the Victorian era - strict, harsh, severe - and it came out of even darker times before that.

You're right, we need love, however it is labelled. And that whole 'God-fearing' thing never sat well with me either. And God is so forgiving and loving and patient - but we see a wicked temper and "show them no mercy" supposedly from God ?? Uh - I don't get it.
