Wow, what a story, PJ. Hard times for your family and your parents did whatever they could to make sure you were all fed. I'm sure it was hard - as you said, your dad's conscience bothered him. But what else are you gonna do with a bunch of hungry kids to feed?

Very cool about the gardening!! No fun for kids, but what a huge blessing to have had that opportunity - and such delicious fresh produce!
