Yeah - maybe someday it won't hurt so much but for now, I can't imagine ever setting foot on English soil again. It would just be too painful.
And yes, Canada is beautiful! It's 4,000 miles wide...you can just about every kind of geography and climate imaginable in a country so vast. Google "map of Canada" - you will be amazed at how big it is (second largest country in the world).
We have 10 provinces that go east to west but then we also have other territories north of the provinces that extend up into the arctic. British Columbia is the westernmost province, and Alberta is next door to the east. If you can find a map of Canada, and then locate Alberta, you'll see where I am (Calgary).
Also - you can fit the whole of England into Alberta about five times. England is about 50,000 sq miles, Alberta is 255,000. And Canada is 3.8 million square miles. Yet we have only about 2/3 of the population of England! (38 million to your 55 million).
So there's lots to see and do! And it's definitely not crowded :)
