Yep, yep, yep!! Gosh, it was life-changing when I learned this many years ago. I grew up being criticised, insulted, humiliated and put down by my mother. It had an adverse impact on me for years and when I learned this in counselling, it was one of the first major steps in my ability to heal from all of that.
