Yes - writing is so beautiful for giving us an opportunity to process and express what is otherwise unexpressable (is that even a word?!).
My own painful past has been littered with trauma of a very different kind since childhood (I hate to even use the "t-word," knowing the kinds of horrors you and others have experienced in war). I found that journalling / writing for myself was therapeutic through the worst times and thankfully, I've managed to get to a point of healing in which those issues don't have a significant impact on my daily life anymore.
