You weren't being a control freak!! That would be THEIR department. You were being a loving and compassionate mother, sensitive to her baby's needs. They were being complete and utter gaslighting assholes. Definitely divorce-worthy behaviour, in my humble opinion. That 'hand on your arm' thing - that is so abusive and massively controlling and toxic.
