Saturday morning came and with it, a crushed dream. Robert rolled over and opened one eye, glancing at the clock beside the bed. Oh, no, 9:15! Exhausted after yet another miserable night, he had finally drifted into a deep sleep just as the sun was coming up. He had a vague recollection of having turned off the alarm and instantly falling back asleep.

He rolled onto his side and pushed himself up on one elbow. Yawning, he sat up and perched on the edge of the bed, contemplating how to proceed with his day.

“Follow the daisies,” the gypsy had said. But just what the hell does that mean?

“Okay, it means Lucy, but I don’t know where she’s getting married,” he muttered under his breath. “Or when. Early in the day, I believe?” Come on, think, man! She did mention it the other day, didn’t she?

First things first. Gotta get a pot of coffee brewing. Can’t do anything till I’m more alert.

Once the pot was on the stove, he got himself washed and shaved. By the time he was dressed, the coffee was about…
